Implied probability and finding value
The real skill in betting is spotting value — odds that pay more than the true chance of the outcome. To do it, convert the odds into an implied probability and compare it with your own estimate:
- Decimal: implied probability = 1 ÷ decimal odds. (2.50 → 1 ÷ 2.50 = 40%.)
- If you believe the real chance is higher than the implied probability, the bet has positive expected value (+EV) — the kind of edge sharp bettors chase.
