AMTD, The SandBox join forces to build fashion platform in metaverse
AMTD IDEA Group has partnered with The Sandbox through its subsidiaries AMTD Digital Inc. and L’OFFICIEL SAS Inc. to build a metaverse-based culture and fashion platform.
In March, French fashion magazine L’OFFICIEL will release a new game in The Sandbox, a gaming world owned by Animoca Brands. L’OFFICIEL’s Land is set to transform into the game’s central culture and fashion destination.
AMTD IDEA Group chairman Calvin Choi said he was pleased to join forces with The Sandbox. He also said that the company was thrilled to debut the AMTD L’OFFICIEL Culture & Fashion Hub in The Sandbox because both businesses were committed to creating ground-breaking digital experiences for their global audience.
L’OFFICIEL’s CEO and AMTD IDEA Group chief metaverse officer Benjamin Eymère said The Sandbox had demonstrated the potential of the metaverse. He explained that L’OFFICIEL would continue pushing content integration limits to provide users with the best possible experience. With the new partnership, they may reevaluate the role of style and culture in Web3.
The CEO and COO of The Sandbox, Arthur Madrid and Sebastien Borget, said that seeing AMTD and L’OFFICIEL join The Sandbox with such a fully “immersive experience” proves that they are using the right strategy.
These founders also said the company is excited to make a long-term deal with AMTD and L’OFFICIEL. Together, they plan to develop the first Land on The Sandbox for a digital fashion hub and seek out new talent.
L’OFFICIEL unveiled this digital fashion hub at L’OFFICIEL Coffee on Promenade 49 during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2023 in Davos, Switzerland, from 16 to 20 January 2023.
L’OFFICIEL’s Land was created by Eymère. He took inspiration from science fiction movies like Dune and Total Recall to build a one-of-a-kind desert environment.
Per its official website, L’OFFICIEL Land is an outdoor museum and a state-of-the-art theater where information from the past and future can be reimagined for a new audience.
Eymère said that with the metaverse, L’OFFICIEL would push the limits of media and entertainment — with the help of The Sandbox and under the direction of AMTD IDEA.
According to Eymère, Web3 represents the beginning of a new era, and the firm is eager to explore this exciting frontier in the company of its many talented friends, designers and creators of this innovative new world.
The AMTD x L’OFFICIEL land in The Sandbox, titled “Fashion Skin,” showcases a line of digital garments designed with the help of artificial intelligence trained on a database of more than 100,000 exclusive pictures spanning L’OFFICIEL’s century-long publication history.
L’OFFICIEL Land is not the company’s only venture in the virtual world. During Paris Fashion Week in 2021, L’OFFICIEL commemorated its 100th anniversary by opening a virtual museum called “The House of Dreams.”
The company created an NFT exhibition featuring user-selected L’OFFICIEL images and exclusive VIP performances. The online debut featured Jessica Chastain and Maluma, who graced the covers of L’OFFICIEL and Vogue’s Fall 2021 issues. They also invited famous brands like Valentino, Dior, Salvatore Ferragamo and Tiffany & Co.
