Gala Games announces development of NFT MMO Mirandus

Gala Games, a studio notable for developing and publishing blockchain games such as Town Star, Spider Tanks, Last Expedition and Legends Reborn, has announced that it has begun development on a new Web3 MMORPG called Mirandus.

According to the company’s press release, traditional MMORPGs are failing to reward their players for their time and effort. Players spend hundreds of hours, real money and effort and do not gain anything of real value. However, Gala Games is looking to change that by integrating blockchain technology into the MMORPG experience. This will allow every in-game item to have value and potentially be put up for sale in an in-game market.

“Playing games takes time, effort, and sometimes even real money, but all that effort doesn’t change the gamers’ empty wallets. Instead, the gaming industry spends many resources on ensuring game items are worthless and circumventing that will result in RMT bans,” wrote Gala Games in a press release.

A key feature of the game is its player-focused and run economy. A player could spend their time finding resources to craft a sword which is then sold on the market for profit. Then another player buys that sword and uses it to complete quests and explore dungeons, earning the adventurer items and resources, which can also be put up for sale on the market. This system enables players to engage in a community-driven play-to-earn experience where players have control.

“Players get to truly own what they win in our games. If you earn or win a magical sword on the Gala Game Platform, it is yours. Your items and any inherited status is a verifiable asset on the blockchain you can trade to another person or play with in-game,” wrote Gala Games.

Another notable feature the developers are working on is support for the Gala Games Node system. Gala Games uses a decentralized system that allows players to host Nodes that are supported by the user, giving players who choose to host a node some power over the decision-making and funding choices. While Mirandus will not have Node support right now, Gala Games said that “it may be something in the future.”

Game access, economy and Exemplars

Currently, the game is accessible only to early adopters who have purchased an NFT character — an Exemplar — and is part of the Discord server. Besides the chance to try out the beta version of the game, players will also have the opportunity to earn the in-game currency Materium, which is used for a wide variety of in-game actions such as crafting and teleportation and can also be listed on secondary markets for trading purposes.

Access to the game will be highly exclusive, with only 50,000 Exemplars ever to be created. With each Exemplar having special buffs and specializations, players can opt to trade characters between each other to better match their playstyle through a secondary marketplace. The developers have thought about the idea of introducing playable non-Exemplar characters to accommodate a wider audience if the demand grows high enough, but nothing is settled yet.
