Among Us VR’s features

The game will feature voice chat, quick text chat and online play. Players can still customize their crewmate’s color and hat, with each session having four to 10 players. The game can be played cross-platform and will be available in eight languages at launch—English, French, Italian, German, Spanish (LATAM), Chinese (traditional and simplified), Japanese, and Korean. The game also has achievements for gamers to collect.

“Among Us VR will launch just in time for the holidays, and we can’t wait to hear how family and friends band together and betray each other as they complete tasks aboard the Skeld II,” Innersloth community director Victoria Tran said.

“The VR version of Among Us remains true to the spirit of the original game while also giving players an all-new way to experience the chaos and thrill of accusing your friends of murder!”

Innersloth collaborated with video game consulting firm Robot Teddy to bring the game to other platforms after its rise to popularity in 2020. They later partnered with Schell Games to make Among Us available as a VR game.

“We’ve worked on a lot of different projects, but working with Innersloth and Robot Teddy to bring Among Us to VR platforms was fulfilling in many ways,” Schell Games CEO Jesse Schell said.

“Together, we created something that will delight the existing Among Us community, create new fans who will experience Among Us for the first time in a headset, or entice supporters of the original game to try VR for the first time. Let the emergency meetings commence!”

Among Us VR’s launch trailer shows the reworks to bring the game into virtual reality. players can now see each other during emergency meetings and point at crewmates they believe to be an impostor using VR handles. The game also features Among Us’ iconic kill animations in 3D.

First launched in 2018, the game remained popular over the past two years. In the first quarter of 2022, Among Us was the fifth most-played game globally. That said, Innersloth co-founder Marcus Bromander said the developer had “abandoned” Among Us before its sudden popularity and planned to work on a sequel.

“Among Us brought together close communities and complete strangers during a collectively unusual and difficult time. Among Us VR lets players embody that intensity and liveliness,” Robot Teddy director Ranjani Natarajan said.

“Who doesn’t want to roleplay hilarity, intrigue and some juicy backstabbery in virtual reality over the holidays?”
