Supermassive Games to remake Until Dawn for current-gen consoles, rumor says

England-based game studio developer Supermassive Games has been rumored to be working on an Until Dawn remake, which was originally released back in 2015. The studio has also made other horror titles similar to the game, such as The Dark Pictures.

The news came from a Twitter account known as AccountNGT, which has been carrying out inside information about upcoming games. AccountNGT got more recognition after it leaked screenshots related to Star Wars Eclipse prior to its release date.

The account claimed that the studio is already working on a remake of Until Dawn, which could be coming to current-generation consoles.

“From what I’ve heard from several separate sources, in addition to their new games, Supermassive Games is reportedly working on a remake of Until Dawn for some time that will be coming to current-gen consoles,” the account tweeted. “I will try to find out more about this potential project.”

Created by Supermassive Games, Until Dawn is an interactive horror game where eight young adults must survive as they are threatened by various dangers. The game’s story writers borrowed elements from horror films and games, such as Poltergeist and Evil Dead II.

What If Gaming noted that Until Dawn was an entertaining title that showcased some of the best visuals of the time. It didn’t win any awards, but most gamers still considered Until Dawn an amusing title with outstanding visuals.

Consoles for Until Dawn

Comicbook noted that Supermassive Games has been building horror games in the style of “Until Dawn” in recent years. It has been speculated that the studio could be looking to revive the franchise by bringing back the title.

The original game was only released as a PS4 exclusive. This has caused confusion as to how and why it would be released on other consoles, with some speculating that it could be released on other platforms, such as the PSVR 2.

Unfortunately, AccountNGT has not clarified this to fans. Even though it seems far-fetched, there has been precedent for this type of scenario. It previously happened to Q-Games’ The Tomorrow Children and Remedy Entertainment’s Alan Wake.

The report also claimed that the game’s remake could be available for “current-gen consoles.” It would be an excellent move for the franchise to allow fans from various platforms to experience the game’s story.

Although Sony still owns Until Dawn IP, the fact that Sony does not control Supermassive Games makes many fans believe that the game could be released on other platforms, such as PC and Xbox. But, Xbox users should not get their hopes high since Microsoft is Sony’s competitor, and Sony is still dictating the game’s conditions. At this point, the PC release seems more probable than the Xbox release.

Since the developer has not yet released an official statement, these details will still remain speculation until further notice. Gamers should look forward to more news regarding the game IP acquisition.
