Rockstar Games confirms Grand Theft Auto 6 in active development
After much speculation, Rockstar Games has confirmed the new installment of the fan-favorite crime adventure, Grand Theft Auto 6, is in active development through Rockstar’s official website on February 4, 2022.
Rockstar’s recent community updates confirming the next GTA installment reads:
“With the unprecedented longevity of GTA 5, we know many of you have been asking us about a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series. With every new project we embark on, our goal is always to significantly move beyond what we have previously delivered — and we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
While Rockstar had confirmed the development, they did not mention anything about what the next installment will be called or has provided more details about the next game.
It is safe to assume that the release date for the next installment after GTA 5 is far from this year or not in any way around the corner, considering the development status is “well-underway” and Rockstar is not into confirming specific release dates years prior to the actual release.
Hence, there is not much to make about when the game will come out. As the rest of the statement reads:
“We look forward to sharing more as soon as we are ready, so please stay tuned to the Rockstar Newswire for official details. On behalf of our entire team, we thank you all for your support and cannot wait to step into the future with you!”
However, details about the game that we may find amid rumors and speculations are ones according to an IGN report. IGN suggests that GTA 6 was in early development back in 2020.
Furthermore, as per multiple reports, the game could arrive in 2024-2025 and GTA 6 would take place in a Vice City-inspired modern Miami. VGC also added that the map of the upcoming GTA 6 is set to be altered from time to time similar to Fortnite’s live service game.
Hype built for GTA 6, past success
Furthermore, the next game after GTA 5 is one that is highly anticipated by fans after it was released in 2013. The community has been looking for an entirely brand new experience. Anything new within the universe of the well-acclaimed crime adventure game but GTA 5’s online component, GTA Online.
The constant and no shortage of content for GTA Online has led the community to feel unsatisfied. To top it all off, Rockstar’s all-out attention to GTA Online is made for the expense of its other game lack of content, Red Dead Online.
GTA 5 stands and continues to be one of the best-selling video games with 155 million copies sold and generated over $1 billion retail sales according to Take-Two Interactive’s second-quarter fiscal figures on November 3, 2021. Making the game a best-selling game of the decade.
Following the success of GTA 5 and Rockstar’s track record of providing fans with a one-of-a-kind video gaming experience, the hype built for the next installment is unavoidable. Therefore, to say that the community expects more from Rockstar with their games is an understatement.
