Vanguard: Call of Duty Updates

Call of Duty fans now have official news on the newest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Vanguard. The new game was announced a couple of weeks back during a Warzone event.

The highlights from the reveal trailer revolved around the game’s details, again. The standout moment came when the developers showed gameplay illustrating how various objects throughout the map would react when the shooting started.

In one particular scene, gunfire from behind a bookcase knocked volumes from shelves and shredded their pages, creating a new sightline and leaving the books scattered on the floor. Call of Duty: Vanguard will introduce a dynamic that most gamers have only found in EA’s Battlefield series. With these new gameplay features, it will bring a nice change to the COD esports scene.

In Vanguard, players will play across the four theaters of War World 2. The Western and Eastern European fronts as well as the South Pacific and North Africa. The campaign features four protagonists from across the globe:

  • Private Lucas Riggs, 20th Battalion, Australian 9th Infantry Division, British Eighth Army.
  • Sergeant Arthur Kingsley of the 9th Parachute Battalion, British Army.
  • Lieutenant Wade Jackson, Scouting Squadron Six, United States Navy.
  • Lieutenant Polina Petrova of the 138th Rifle Division, Red Army.

Along with an updated multiplayer and new campaign, Activision has announced that they will be implementing a new anti-cheat system for Warzone along with the Vanguard reveal. The anti-cheat won’t be available right away, but more information will be coming as it gets closer to release.

Activision showed all of this in the trailer and fans can expect to see more as it gets closer to the release date and the beta release. Vanguard comes out on November 5th for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Battle.net for PC. The beta opens for all the consoles.

Accessing the Beta

Like in previous years, the Vanguard open beta will be available via pre-order once it appears in the console store. Playstation players will get early access to the beta, like in years past. If you pre-order the Ultimate Edition, you will be given a plethora of perks and guns for Warzone at the very start of the game.

There are a couple of ways of accessing the beta and getting the code needed. Keep in mind that you will only get one code for one console so be sure in selecting the right one. You can pre-order Call of Duty: Vanguard either digitally or at nearly any retailer.

Beta Release Dates

The beta will be available first for PlayStation users on both consoles for pre-order customers only. The second weekend of the beta will open up to all PlayStation players, along with Xbox & PC players.

  • PlayStation only (pre-order required): Sept. 10 – 13
  • PlayStation Open Beta: Sept. 16 – 20
  • Xbox & PC (pre-order required): Sept. 16 – 17
  • Xbox & PC Open Beta: Sept. 18 – 20

It’s too early to know the exact size of the beta, but based on last year’s Call of Duty: Cold War beta, you could expect it to be a decent size. It weighed in at 31 GB on PS4, 21GB on Xbox One, and 40GB on PC. This time around, it will also be dropping on next-gen consoles, which may also affect the size.
